Usage Guidelines

It is the sincere hope of the founders and sponsors that the SharePointGovernance.org Site will become a respected and valued source of content for the SharePoint community.  We reserve the right to exclude participants who abuse the purpose or resources of this Site.

 

§  The purpose of this Site is to promote mutual success (and awareness of complications) in deploying and using SharePoint through community participation

o   Content submissions will be welcome based on relevance and utility to others

o   Content should be considered based on the following simple question: Will it help another user or company to save time, avoid issues, or follow a straighter path?

§  Appropriate usage

o   All participants must avoid commercialism or self-promotion

o   Attribution is critical; any content which is based on another source or author MUST be identified in the “Content Author” metadata

§  The underlying philosophy is encouragement

o   Respect the content and motives of others when reviewing or rating content

o   The range of experience of Site users will vary and there must be tolerance for the comments of those less experienced

o   Fact-based contrary views are encouraged based on participant experience

o   Contentious or belittling attitudes are not welcome

§  Uploads

o   As a Site which needs to provide good performance for many users, the following must be observed

§  Size: we ask that a 3 megabyte limit be observed

o   File Types

§  Must be common, e.g. PDF, Microsoft Office, text, mp3 (brief!)

o   Version

§  Content providers should consider a lowest common denominator effect and use Office 2003 for Microsoft-based products

§  This is Business Release 1

o   By this we mean that not all potential functionality has been included in the initial release

o   We expect to work with the SharePointGovernance.org community to develop the most important additions and enhancements to the Site
